January 22, 2013: "God rejoicing"

January 22, 2013 marked the memorial of the 40th year of legalized abortion in the United States since the Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton court decisions. In that time, there have been over 55 million1 abortions – that we know of. Countless souls have been crushed, mothers of those 55 million have suffered the emotional, psychological and physical side effects of not only the procedure but of the life-long loss of their child. The father of each child, if he knew about the abortion, has suffered a lifetime of regret and lost fatherhood.

55 million. That’s a huge number. Russian communist Joseph Stalin who was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths in the “Great Purge” alone, once said that “when one man dies it is a tragedy, when thousands die it’s statistics.”2 This is the mentality we often take as a society in the United States towards abortion. Similar to the national debt, the number is so large that we can’t compute it. After tragedies like the recent mass shootings, our country reacts in mourning, yet when one third of the post Roe v. Wade generation is missing, it is not newsworthy. When 23% of pregnancies end in abortion in San Antonio, there isn’t a single story.

This memorial could be devastating considering how many lives, formed so intricately in their mother’s wombs by our Lord, have been lost. However, as faithful and hopeful Christians trusting in God’s plan, we must look for God’s story unfolding amidst the 40 years of destruction. Just as Jesus’ passion seemed like the ultimate defeat for the Christian movement, we have to look at what has come from the prolife movement in recent years leading up to this 40 year mark. Just as he defeated death by his resurrection, we must defeat the death by abortion through our own resurrection of the faithful.

The uprising of prolife organizations

Never before have we seen so many champions of the prolife movement speaking up, sharing their experiences and taking charge.

Carol Everett, who worked with Planned Parenthood and several other abortion clinics in Texas, had a conversion experience in 1983. Since that moment, she has founded The Heidi Group (heidigroup.org), which assists women in crisis pregnancy and has been a strategist in defunding Planned Parenthood in Texas.

Abby Johnson, former Planned Parenthood employee of the year in 2008, also turned avidly prolife, after watching an ultrasound-guided abortion. She too has founded an organization, And Then There Were None (attwn.org), which enables abortion clinic workers to find jobs outside of the abortion industry. As of February 16th, ATTWN has reached 43 workers, doctors and nurses. We are honored to have Abby as our keynote speaker at the annual SACFL banquet on April 26th.

Rebecca Kiessling, an abortion survivor of two back-alley abortion attempts has recently started Save the One (savethe1.com). Save the One finds their namesake in the one lost sheep of Jesus’ parable in Matthew 18:12-14 and advocates eliminating rape as an exception for abortion.

Similarly, Ryan Bomberger is now speaking about his adoption after being conceived when his mother was raped. He has started the Radiance Foundation (theradiancefoundation.org), as well as, toomanyaborted.com, which strives to expose the eugenic and racist past of Planned Parenthood.

Sue Thayer, former director of Planned Parenthood in Storm Lake, Iowa is now battling in court with the abortion giant seeking over $5 billion in damages for their misuse of government funds. Sue was the keynote speaker at our banquet in April 2012.

Ramona Trevino managed the Planned Parenthood in Sherman, Texas, but had a conversion for life. Immediately following her conversion, she ran a 40 Days for Life campaign outside her former workplace that resulted in its closure in August of 2011. We will have Ramona as our keynote speaker at the San Antonio 40 Days for Life closing rally on Monday, March 25th.

Though she has not directly experienced the evil of abortion, Lila Rose started Live Action (liveaction.org) in 2004 to expose Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry. Since then, she has conducted video sting operations that revealed Planned Parenthood’s concealment of illegal prostitution, sex-selective abortions, statutory rape, sexual slavery and many more state and federal violations. Live Action also produces a publication, The Advocate, for college and high school campuses on abortion and the abortion industry.

While the death toll is staggering, the number of organizations joining the fight strengthens the fiber of the prolife movement, making us more effective than ever. While these grassroots organizations and leaders inspire hundreds of thousands to get active, recent and proposed legislation in the courts of Texas and the United States also give us great hope.

Legislative successes in Texas

While there have been many legislative successes around the nation in recent years, no state has passed more prolife legislation or removed more tax dollars from funding Planned Parenthood than Texas. Organizations such as Texas Right to Life and Texas Alliance for Life have worked hard to cut revenue to the abortion industry as part of the state’s budget in the recent Legislative Sessions. As a direct result, six Planned Parenthood affiliated clinics have closed or are in the process of closing in North Texas.

In 1999, the Parental Notification bill finally passed requiring parents be notified of their minor daughter’s intent to seek and undergo an abortion. The teen abortion rate has dropped noticeably since Texas enacted parental involvement laws strengthening Texas families and protecting the rights of parents.

In 2003, the Texas Legislature passed Texas’ version of informed consent before an abortion, the Woman’s Right to Know law. The bill established a 24-hour waiting period before an abortion and that the woman seeking an abortion be given information about potential complications of the procedure as well as a comprehensive list of alternatives.

Also in 2003, the Prenatal Protection act passed which assured that unborn children would be considered victims of state crimes if they died or were injured during the commission of crimes against their pregnant mothers. As a result, Texas penal code recognizes unborn children at the moment of fertilization.3

This past 82nd Legislative Session was perhaps the most historic and successful for the prolife movement in Texas. The Ultrasound Bill (SB182), though hindered by legal obstacles at times, has been written into law closing the many loop holes of the 2003 Woman’s Right to Know law requiring abortion doctors to make available the ultrasound image of the unborn child and the audible sound of the unborn child’s heartbeat to the mother to give her voluntary and informed consent before an abortion.

After a few unsuccessful attempts, the Texas Alliance for Life was able to get the new “Choose Life!” vehicle license plate passed which promotes adoption and raises funds for adoption agencies in Texas.

For the most part, those involved in prolife legislation have been in fighting for years, even decades. Yet, it is the wave of young people storming the prolife movement on behalf of their missing generational brothers and sisters that encourages and strengthens these prolife veterans.

A prolife youth generation

This past January I attended the sixth Students for Life of America (SFLA) National Conference, in which over 2,000 high school and college students heard from national prolife leaders, attended “how to” workshops on campus programs and increasing membership, found potential prolife jobs and internships and met other student prolife leaders from across the U.S. This was the day after they were inspired by the estimated 650,000 participants at the March for Life in Washington, D.C. which was largely dominated by their peers. I first attended the powerful conference as a student three years ago and there is nothing more powerful than knowing that the prolife movement is thriving among young people of future generations.

But, there is still much work to be done.

In a May 2012 survey with 805 respondents, SFLA found that 48% of those surveyed did not know whether Planned Parenthood offered abortions to pregnant women.4 Such results highlight why peer education among young people, conferences like the one hosted by SFLA and our own Get Real conference are so important. The upcoming youth leaders need to know about Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry, so that we can end abortion in our lifetime.

A new generation is rising. A new group of abolishionists – abortion abolishionists. The best part? You can be one too.

40 Days for Life transforming grassroots efforts

Yet another reason to be joyful despite the lives lost in the past 40 years is the great successes of 40 Days for Life. These campaigns have been effective in literally saving lives and encouraging participation in the prolife movement.

40 Days for Life started in Bryan, Texas in the fall of 2004 and is a “focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion.”5 “The 40-day campaign tracks biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities…the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ’s resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge.”4

As of February 2013, over 550,000 people have participated in the peaceful vigil, 6,749 lives have been saved from abortion (that we know of), 76 clinic workers have left the industry and 28 abortion facilities have closed in 481 cities in 15 countries around the world.6 As of the spring of 2013, we have participated in 11 campaigns in San Antonio.

Local successes

As a result of your participation in the local 40 Days for Life campaigns and our other events, as well as your financial contributions, we too have had some great local successes.

As of February 2013, we have had over 100 lives spared from abortion that we know of. It is important that we say “that we know of” because we are not always told of each case in which women changed their mind or the turned their blinker off once seeing us out on the sidewalk.

In 2009 our founder and President Amy Voorhees uncovered four of San Antonio’s seven Planned Parenthood locations were performing abortions without a license. This discovery resulted in over $200,000 in fines and well over $500,000 in lost revenue and fees for our local Planned Parenthood affiliate.

We have mobilized over 1,900 volunteers in the past five years to peacefully and prayerfully be present in front of the leading abortion provider in San Antonio for each abortion day since December of 2008.

We have personally witnessed a young woman being forced into an abortion by her parent and were able to be there to help her.

With the prolife movement thriving among young people we have established five Get Real prolife clubs in local high schools with many more soon to start.

Your efforts standing peacefully and prayerfully and sidewalk counseling in front of Reproductive Services abortion facility over the past few years (decades for some) have brought about huge results. In late 2012 this clinic, one of the leading abortion providers, closed down. The abortionist, Dr. Alan Braid, was one of the leading voices in opposition to the sonogram law. Today, this closed facility is now Grace Church, a Korean Bible church. What was once a place of destruction and despair is now a place full of worship and praise for God!

When I visited their service one Sunday, my legs were shaking in nervousness as I approached the door. After spending so many hours outside the gate praying for the unborn, mothers, fathers and for the conversion of the clinic workers and doctor in that building, it was almost overwhelming to finally walk inside. When I entered and saw the cross of our Lord and heard the music of praise, I felt an immediate peace.

The message that day was entitled “God rejoicing.” The pastor spoke on Luke 15:1-10, the parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin. In both cases it was probably more costly to search after the sheep or for the woman who lost her coin to invite her friends over to celebrate and rejoice. Jesus says, “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent (verse 7).” God rejoices over the men and women who repent of destroying His tiny masterpieces. So too God rejoices over a building now reclaimed from destruction to one where souls seek Him.

These past 40 years have brought about pain and loss, but their darkness has also allowed for little lights of hope to shine. These lights shine a message of truth, that the life God has created in the womb is precious. We are ready for these lights to overcome the darkness in the hopes that when we meet our Lord face to face we can hear the great words of the Master to His servant, “well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share in your Master’s happiness!” Matt25:21.

Shooting at 104 Babcock?

First I would like to make the disclaimer that the San Antonio Coalition for Life and anyone affiliated by employment or volunteer does not advocate, promote or encourage violence of any kind at any time. All associated sign a Statement of Peace and are strictly held to this document. Please do not be mislead by the subject line or content. I encourage you to read content in entirety.

_____________________________________________________

No, there wasn't a shooting.

There were, however, recent shootings in Aurora, Colorado at the local movie theater, in the Sikh temple in Wisconsin, at a residence near Texas A&M and just yesterday in Washington, D.C. at the Family Research Council who advocates "faith, family and freedom in public policy and public opinion" and is a very prolife organization.

My heart goes out to the family members, friends and community of these horrible acts. When thinking about and praying for these instances it makes me think of the horrible things that go on every day at Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities. It makes me think that once or more a week innocent children in the womb are having their lives taken from them.

It also reminds me of the challenging image that Loxafamosity Ministries put out with the line "would it bother us more if they used guns?"

It poses a very real and challenging question for our society today.

When horrible tragedies like these recent shootings happen and the media is all over it and general public is in mourning, I think of the (also innocent) twenty (20) lives that are taken on average every day in San Antonio.

Genocide is defined as the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of a certain group of people. Here in America, genocide is legal for a certain group of people - the unborn.

Will you be a witness for the legalized genocide of Americans just down the street from your house, your church or your community?

This Saturday prayer warriors and counselors will be on the sidewalk at 104 Babcock in a peaceful, prayerful effort to save the unborn and their parents from the tragedy of abortion as well as to pray for the conversion of the facility workers.

Will you join us between 7am-4pm? How about during 40 Days for Life?

I challenge you to think about this idea: Would it bother you more if they used guns?

What are you going to do about it? How about prayer? How about peaceful witness? How about just simply talking to someone about it? For the unborn, for their parents, for the facility workers, for our elected officials.

I challenge you.

"I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of all the good that is ours in Christ." Philemon 6

"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place." 2Chron 7:14,15

Austin, Texas Planned Parenthood Worker Fired After Live Action Investigation Release

Just hours ago, Live Action released a new investigation video that proved Planned Parenthood’s eagerness to participate in sex-selective abortions that specifically target unborn baby girls.

Weeks before details of the investigation were made public, Planned Parenthood admitted it was “worried” that it had been stung by Live Action again. Its worries were confirmed this morning.

Planned Parenthood fired a staff member in Austin, Texas who was caught on video assisting a woman in obtaining an abortion in the event that her unborn child was a baby girl. Planned Parenthood has yet to explain exactly what this staffer did wrong.

With regards to obtaining an ultrasound to determine the gender of her unborn baby, the woman asks Planned Parenthood, “Do you think I should go and just ask for an ultrasound and just not tell [the doctor] that I’m gonna terminate if it’s a girl, or…I just feel like there’s been some judgment for my…”

“To be honest with you, um, I would probably think so,” the Planned Parenthood staffer suggests.

“But do you think I still just shouldn’t worry about telling them that I would be terminating if it’s a girl?” the pregnant patient repeats later.

“Right,” Planned Parenthood says. “I would.”

Further, Planned Parenthood encourages the woman to engage in Medicaid fraud to obtain an ultrasound so she can get a late-term abortion if her baby is a girl. The staffer explains:

I have actually applied for Medicaid. Got on Medicaid as if I was going to continue my pregnancy, went through the OB/GYN, and then me and my husband decided we were gonna go ahead and terminate. We terminated, and I still stayed on Medcaid and just got on birth control.

The pregnant woman inquires as to whether she should follow in the same steps as the Planned Parenthood staffer to abuse Medicaid to ultimately obtain a sex-selective abortion: “If we did that, we could probably get pregnant again soon after?” she asks.

“From experience,” the Planned Parenthood staffer explains, “there’s nothing wrong with getting pregnant again immediately afterwards.”

Planned Parenthood subsequently fired this staff member, stating:

Within three days of this patient interaction, the staff member’s employment was ended and all staff members at this affiliate were immediately scheduled for retraining in managing unusual patient encounters. Today opponents of Planned Parenthood are promoting an edited video of that hoax patient encounter.

This is Planned Parenthood’s standard protocol to responding to Live Action investigations: claim the videos are a hoax, fire an employee, then re-train your staff.

This undercover video exposing Planned Parenthood’s involvement in gendercide via sex-selective abortions is one of several to be released in the upcoming weeks.

"Monica" asks for our help

Dear SACFL friends,

We received a call last friday from an organization that has been in contact with a young lady in a difficult situation. "Monica" (not her real name) is in a very abusive relationship. She is three months pregnant and her boyfriend demands that she have an abortion.

She asked if we would have prayer warriors on the sidewalk this past Saturday at Reproductive Services on Joiner as her boyfriend scheduled her for an appointment. She wanted to run to us once she got out of the car.

After I sent out the email it was a blessing to see so many emails, phone calls and prayer warriors willing to help. When I arrived I spoke with the police officer hired by Reproductive Services and he confirmed she was on the list. She didn't show that morning. We later were told that her boyfriend was too intoxicated the night before to drive her to the appointment.

Please continue to flood heaven with prayers as "Monica" is in grave fear. More details will be posted as the story continues to develop.

UPDATE: 5th Circuit Judge Stays Lower Court's Injunction -- Defunding Planned Parenthood Begins!

UPDATE: 5th Circuit Judge Stays Lower Court's Injuction -- Defunding Planned Parenthood Begins!

05/03/2012 AUSTIN, TX -- Late April 30, a federal judge on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stayed the order of the federal court in Austin. That means that as on May 1, the de-funding of Planned Parenthood from the Medicaid Women's Health Program has begun. That defunding is required under Senate Bill 7, which was passed by the Legislature and signed into law by pro-life Governor Rick Perry last summer.

"For the first time in the seven-year history of the Medicaid Women's Health Program, Planned Parenthood will not receive federal and state tax dollars in Texas," said Joe Pojman, Ph.D., executive director of Texas Alliance for Life. They can no longer administer WHP funds in the very same locations that they perform abortions and where they promote abortion as a method of birth control."

Federal Judge in Austin Orders Texas to Continue to Fund Planned Parenthood

Federal Judge in Austin Orders Texas to Continue to Fund Planned Parenthood

04/30/2012 AUSTIN, TX -- Today a federal district court in Austin ordered Texas to continue to fund Planned Parenthood under the Medicaid Women's Health Program using federal and state tax dollars.

Under a rule adopted by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission as required by Senate Bill 7, passed last summer by the Legislature, Planned Parenthood would be ineligible to be a WHP provider beginning May 1. Today's ruling by Judge Lee Yeakel prevents that rule from going into effect, at least for now.

Joe Pojman, Ph.D., executive director of Texas Alliance for Life, gave the following statement:

We are very saddened that the federal court in Austin ruled today in favor of Planned Parenthood and the will of the Obama Administration and against the taxpayers of Texas. Planned Parenthood runs the largest chain of abortion facilities in our state, and they the mix Women's Health Program and abortions under the same roof at many of those abortion facilities. For example that is the case in Bryan, Dallas, Houston, and Waco. Governor Perry and the Legislature have every right to prevent Planned Parenthood from promoting abortion as a method of family planning with tax dollars.

We believe that today's setback will be temporary and that the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will recognize the constitutionality of Texas law.

Of the some 2,500 Women's Health Program providers, 98% have nothing to do with Planned Parenthood and abortion. Planned Parenthood, which has no mammogram machines, provides shabby care for low-income women. Planned Parenthood is unable or unwilling to offer comprehensive primary and preventative care, which low-income women deserve. A woman will not see a doctor at Planned Parenthood unless she is there for an abortion. The State ordered Planned Parenthood San Antonio to return thousands of WHP funds in 2009 because Planned Parenthood had been illegally operating unlicensed abortion facilities at the same sites where they providing WHP services.

Wounded Warriors

Today's blog post comes from an amazing woman, Cathy Kerr.  She is one of my personal heroes!  As a post abortive woman, she has been an amazing leader for helping young women to see the truth of abortion.  Cathy currently serves as the Regional Coordinator for Silent No More Awareness Campaign.

"I met a woman on the sidewalk today.  A group of pro-life prayer warriors gathered in front of a Planned Parenthood facility to stand against the death of innocent babies in the womb.  I always watch my fellow prayer partners as they pray and reach out to the young women who enter that building, and I am encouraged by their presence and their witness to life.

As she was leaving, this particular woman stopped and talked to me.  She said, “Thank you for your sign (I Regret My Abortion).  I know what that means.  I’ve been there.”  She had tears in her eyes as we talked.  I asked her if she had been to a retreat for healing, and she said no, but she felt that she needed that, as she had not yet come to terms with her abortion.  It has been many years since her abortion.  I hugged her and gave her my card.

As I continued to stand there and pray, I included her in my prayers.  She is not the first woman I have met on the sidewalk who has had an abortion.  Once we realize the gravity of our sin, we feel compelled to do something to atone for it.  We are the wounded warriors who know exactly what is going on in that dark building.  This is not an easy thing to do.  I am reminded of the novel “The Scarlet Letter,” in which Hester Prynne must wear a bright red letter “A” on her chest as a symbol of her sin.  Her letter symbolized adultery; mine symbolizes abortion.

I am so grateful to those who support the efforts of those of us in the Silent No More Awareness movement, and particularly for those who have given me words of love and encouragement.  For so many years, as this woman on the sidewalk shared with me, we felt that we had no support and no alternatives.  We accept responsibility for our sins, but we also realize that we must no longer remain silent about what is going on.  Abortion hurts unborn children, women, men and families.

It is Christ who gives us the courage and the grace to do what we do.  We thank all of you in the pro-life movement for your support, love and encouragement.  May we soon see an end to this tragedy."

What does a Pro Life Volunteer in San Antonio look like?

What does a pro life volunteer in San Antonio look like today?  Well, if they're a volunteer with the San Antonio Coalition for Life they are peaceful, prayerful and law abiding.

This past Tuesday, as we kicked off the Spring 40 Days for Life Campaign, we got to see first hand the peaceful, prayerful presence of over 100 SACFL volunteers compared to the yelling and clanging of drums of about 15 Planned Parenthood counter protestors.

See for yourself by watching the video here: http://www.vimeo.com/20863230

Amongst the peaceful prayerful singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet you hear the clanging drums of PP counter protestors yelling "abortion on demand- with no apologies!" .  While they walked through the crowd on the sidewalk yelling at prayer warriors "See, how does it feel to be yelled at? It's not nice is it?", I kept thinking They've obviously never been to a vigil when we were there

Because that's not what we're about.  We're not on the sidewalk to judge women and men who think that abortion is the answer they're so desperately looking for.  We are there to warn them about the dangers of abortion that they have NOT been fully informed about, give them a true look at the life that exists in their womb and offer loving, life affirming alternatives.  Our community is here with resources for women facing unplanned pregnancies.  We are here to help with diapers, clothing, furniture- basically anything a woman needs in order to continue her pregnancy.

I'd like to leave you with this final thought: as I first arrived on the sidewalk I came across the counter protestors holding a large sign.  Knowing very well the rules and laws regarding protest on the sidewalk, I saw that they were blocking the driveway.  I leaned over and told one of the women "Just to let you know we're not allowed to block the driveway because it's against the law".  She looked back at me and said "Oh, it's okay, we know them and they [Planned Parenthood] won't call the police on us".

Isn't that simple statement so truthful and telling of the what we see and encounter everyday in regards to Planned Parenthood?  They have NO regard for the laws that exists in order to protect.  Whether it be protecting a sex trafficking pimp, helping underage girls to get abortions without parental notification or providing medical abortions without the proper licensing, Planned Parenthood has shown time and time again that they have no problem with breaking the law....all to the achieve "abortion on demand- with no apologies".

The Power of Prayer

As human beings we all think that we have complete control over our lives.  It's often a big surprise to find out that, in fact, God is in control.  In the movie "Evan Almighty" (a highly recommended family flick!) God laughs as the main character Evan says something to the effect of "I can't do this- I have plans!".  In fact, God often has plans for our lives far greater than we could ever imagine.

For Abby Johnson, the ex-director of the Bryan, TX Planned Parenthood clinic, who exactly one year ago today decided to walk away from her job and join the pro lifers on the other side of the fence, God had much larger plans.  Abby has said she expected that after the national news broke of her departure from PP that she would find another job and her family would get back to their daily lives in Bryan.  To her surprise God had additional plans for Abby and now she has become an strong, beautiful example of the pro life community.  For the prayer warriors who stood on the opposite side of the fence, praying fervently for so many years for Abby and all the doctors and staff of the Bryan Planned Parenthood, Abby's departure has been a testament to the power of prayer.

Often we pray hoping for an answer right away.  But like the story of the widow in the bible who kept appealing to the unjust judge for justice against her adversary (Luke 18:1-8), we must persevere in praying for an end to abortion and, even better, praying for the staff, nurses and doctors of abortion clinics.  If there is no one to perform the abortion then the practice will, naturally, end.

Our biggest weapon to end abortion is our prayer.  Prayer in our homes every day can work wonders.  Prayer, with an added physical presence in front of abortion clinics, has shown to work miracles.  We have heard from multiple women, and new grandparents, who changed their minds about abortion upon driving up to the clinic and seeing prayer warriors standing peacefully on the sidewalk.  In the past we have witnessed desperate friends, family and fathers of children in danger of abortion appeal to the help of prayer warriors and sidewalk counselors in front of the abortion clinic.   The San Antonio Coalition for Life has even documented a saved life by text message!  The father, locked out of the Planned Parenthood because of his opposition to the "choice" for abortion, with the help of a sidewalk counselor texted his girlfriend inside the building.   Later on she came out after changing her mind to have an abortion.

So many of us want to see and end to abortion now- expecting that our prayer will be answered right away.  When abortions continue to happen each week some of these same people get frustrated and feel like their prayers are going unanswered.  In our daily prayers we have to remember that, not only do we have to persevere in asking, we may not always SEE the direct result of our prayer.

How many women, contemplating abortion, drove by the abortion clinic to see a "Pregnant?  FREE Help" sign and called for the support she needed to continue her pregnancy?  How many men saw the prayerful warriors on the sidewalk and stepped up to be the man and father that God wanted them to be?

We may never know.  What we do know is that prayer has power and some day we will see the answer to our prayers.  Someday we will live in a world where all life in cherished: Born and Unborn.

Is Planned Parenthood really needed in our community?

With all the talk of health care recently, given the new Obamacare plan, Planned Parenthood as a large benefactor of federal money comes up a lot. Are they really what they say- providers of health care to a community who otherwise would have none? Or is there a deeper, darker side to why they exist?

As you may or may not know, Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood had some radical beliefs on eugenics, birth control and large families. Here are some quotes from Margaret Sanger herself taken from the site www.dianedew.com/sanger.htm

On the extermination of blacks:
"We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population," she said, "if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America, by Linda Gordon

On blacks, immigrants and indigents:
"...human weeds,' 'reckless breeders,' 'spawning... human beings who never should have been born." Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization, referring to immigrants and poor people.

On the purpose of birth control:
The purpose in promoting birth control was "to create a race of thoroughbreds," she wrote in the Birth Control Review, Nov. 1921 (p. 2)

On adultery:
A woman's physical satisfaction was more important than any marriage vow, Sanger believed. Birth Control in America, p. 11

On marital sex:
"The marriage bed is the most degenerating influence in the social order," Sanger said. (p. 23) [Quite the opposite of God's view on the matter: "Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." (Hebrews 13:4)

On abortion:
"Criminal' abortions arise from a perverted sex relationship under the stress of economic necessity, and their greatest frequency is among married women." The Woman Rebel - No Gods, No Masters, May 1914, Vol. 1, No. 3.

On the Catholic Church's view of contraception:
"...enforce SUBJUGATION by TURNING WOMAN INTO A MERE INCUBATOR." The Woman Rebel - No Gods, No Masters, May 1914, Vol. 1, No. 3.

On motherhood:
"I cannot refrain from saying that women must come to recognize there is some function of womanhood other than being a child-bearing machine." What Every Girl Should Know, by Margaret Sanger (Max Maisel, Publisher, 1915) [Jesus said: "Daughters of Jerusalem, weep... for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed (happy) are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the breasts which never gave suck." (Luke 23:24)]

On Large Families:
"The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it." Margaret Sanger, Women and the New Race (Eugenics Publ. Co., 1920, 1923)

So, Planned Parenthood has a shady and sinister beginning. Today Planned Parenthood states that they are there to provide health care to women and men who don't have any options. They believe that if they didn't exist then women and men would have no place to turn to for medical services. So what are some quotes from Planned Parenthood of today?
(also taken from the site www.dianedew.com/sanger.htm)

"We are not going to be an organization promoting celibacy or chastity."
Faye Wattleton, President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Los Angeles Times, Oct. 17, 1986

"If your parents are stupid enough to deny you access to birth control, and you are under 18, you can get it on your own. Call Planned Parenthood."
Planned Parenthood advertisement, Dallas Observer, Jan. 30, 1986

"There are only 2 basic kinds of sex: sex with victims and sex without. Sex with victims is always wrong. Sex without is ALWAYS right."
You've Changed The Combination, Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood, Denver, Colo.

"The question of whether or not to sell ourselves to men is a false one: The real question is how to sell ourselves in the way that is least destructive to ourselves and our sisters. Prostitutes don't need our condescension. What they need is our alliance. And we need theirs."
The New Our Bodies, Ourselves, Boston Women's Health Collective, p 113

"At Planned Parenthood you can also get birth control without the consent or knowledge of your parents. So, if you are 14, 15 or 16 and you come to Planned Parenthood, we won't tell your parents you've been there. We swear we won't tell your parents."
Planned Parenthood employee lecturing students of Ramona High School, Riverside, Calif., April 21-22, 1986

From a prominent ex abortionist who was trained by Planned Parenthood, Carol Everett, we know that Planned Parenthood has a plan for our teens. The first goal is to be involved in talking with teens about sex. They want to be in the schools, making sex something that is easily talked about in the open with mixed company- erasing barriers to sex. Next, they work to separate the family by making it seem as though parents don't know what's best for their teens and that Planned Parenthood will be there to help a teen with "health care" and birth control- all without their parents consent or knowledge. When a girl comes to PP for birth control she is intentionally put on a low dose birth control, which won't be taken regularly because, after all, teens aren't exactly great at doing things consistently, and won't be effective because of it's low dose. When a girl becomes pregnant she will certainly go to PP to "fix" the problem and will be offered an abortion as a solution. Planned Parenthood's goal is for every teen to have had at least 3 abortions by the time they enter "adulthood".

But what about Texas' Parental Notification Law? On Planned Parenthood's Website (www.plannedparenthood.org/ppshs/minors-abortion-care-31948.htm) they go to great lengths to explain, in detail, how to get around this notification law- even going as far as to list step by step procedures for receiving a waiver from a Bexar County judge. Does this sound like an organization working for the betterment of society?

If Planned Parenthood is providing for a need to a community who has no other option for health care, then what services do they provide?

If you have a cold can you go to a PP for care? No. If you may have pneumonia can you go to a PP for a chest ex-ray to confirm this? No. If you have a broken bone can you go to PP to get it set and cast? No.

Well, what do they offer?

From the PP Website here is a list of what they do provide: Abortion "Care", Birth Control, Well Woman Checks, STD testing and treatment, Emergency Contraception, Pregnancy Testing, Men's Health Services, and General Health Care. Okay, so we can say they are offering some services that are needed to a community such as well woman checks and STD testing and treatment.

But is it really cost effective for you to go to a PP for any of these tests? Let's take a pregnancy test for example: Planned Parenthood charges $15 for a urine test and $35 for a blood test to confirm pregnancy. Today you can walk in to any grocery store and get a urine test for about $4. You can even go to a dollar store and get a urine test for $1!! Is Planned Parenthood all that needed to those who can't afford health care after all? Better yet, are they the only resource for women and men in need of care?

No, they are not. In most cases there are Federally Qualified Health Care Center's, like San Antonio's local Metro Health Centers, ready and able to provide true comprehensive healthcare- ex-rays, broken bones, pneumonia and all- generally on the same sliding scale basis that PP claims to provide and usually at a cheaper rate than PP can offer.

So don't be fooled by all the talk coming out of the PP office. Now you know the truth....go ahead and spread the word.
